Petition to International Olympic Committee regarding Intersex Athletes -

We, the undersigned, support the members of the Organisation Intersex International, in their demands that:

  1. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) abandon its demands that female athletes with intersex variations have their variations diagnosed and treated.
  2. The IOC allow the above mentioned athletes, known as intersex women, to compete as females without having to undergo diagnosis or “treatment.”
  3. The IOC, the press, and medical practitioners refer to females with intersex variations as “intersex women,” and not “women with disorders of sex development.”

One of the most important things you could do today. Sign this petition to allow intersex athletes to freely compete in the Olympics!

Tamora Pierce's list of LGBTQ YA novels -

novelsaboutqueerpeople:

I respect this woman’s judgement. :) Might try to review more of these eventually. In the meantime, voila, a LIST. Reading lists are beautiful things sometimes.

(By the way, suggestions for adult books are welcomed. I just don’t know of many yet. I don’t mean for this to be just a YA blog.)

Gotta love Tamora Pierce! She also links to some awesome other posts and blogs that review YA novels that are queer! Go check it out (and start compiling your Amazon wish lists)!

By using cisgender to to describe the gender of those who are not trans* we break down structures that posit cis individuals as ‘normal’, when neither is more ‘normal’ than the other.

Amen!!

LGBTI history is made in Queensland, Australia. -

Last night what is estimated to have been over 2,000 members and supporters of the LGBT community took to the streets of Brisbane in protest, to defend civil unions and condemn the LNP’s de-funding of Healthy Communities. It’s now being considered the biggest LGBTI rights rally in Queensland’s history.

Over the last week, the announcement that LNP had cut funding to Queensland’s only LGBTI health service sent shock through our communities, and fuelled the anger prompted by fears of Premier Campbell Newman’s expected intention to follow through on his election promise to repeal same-sex civil unions.

It’s amazing and inspiring to see how the queer community in Queensland is fighting back against the government!! Seriously hoping that Healthy Communities is refunded, and that civil unions remain in place. Fight the good fight!
