From the series “Transportraits” by Lorenzo Triburgo. Triburgo photographs transmen against oil-painted backdrops created by the photographer using instructions from Bob Ross’s The Joy of Painting.

On Friday’s episode of What Would You Do, ABC’s hidden cameras silently recorded as a waitress in a New Jersey got a hard time from a customer who couldn’t handle the fact that she was a trans woman.
“What the hell is the matter with you? Look at yourself! You’re a freak!”
The incident was a set-up, of course, to see how bystanders would react. The ‘customer’ was played by an actor and the waitress was played by RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3 finalist Carmen Carrera, who used the show as a opportunity to announce publicly that she is indeed transgender.
The Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) is encouraging trans activists behind a wave of online petitions calling for improved Medicare coverage of sex reassignment surgery, to focus on lobbying the federal health minister.
Gold Coast trans activist Michelle Diamond, who’s behind one of the more popular Change.org petitions pushing for better coverage, had been calling on the AHRC to take up the cause in light of a perceived emphasis on legal rights rather than associated medical issues.
This highlights a pretty important issue for trans people, be sure to check it out!
The Trans Youth Sexual Health booklet was produced by trans people aged 16-24 at Gendered Intelligence, in partnership with Terrence Higgins Trust. The project allowed young trans people to get together as a group and learn about sexual health, and also to discuss how to make sexual health information more relevant to trans people. As a result, a group of young people produced this information booklet, which is aimed at trans youth and their partners.

Tom Gabel of Against Me! Comes Out as Transgender
Singer reveals plans to begin living as a woman in the new issue of Rolling Stone
Against Me! singer Tom Gabel reveals plans to begin living as a woman in the new issue of Rolling Stone. Gabel, who has dealt privately with gender dysphoria for years, will soon begin the process of transition, by taking hormones and undergoing electrolysis treatments.
Gabel will eventually take the name Laura Jane Grace, and will remain married to her wife Heather. “For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news,” says Gabel. “But she’s been super-amazing and understanding.”
Gabel only told a handful of family and friends about her plan to transition before talking to Rolling Stone. Because this is the first time a major rock star has come out as transgender, the singer made a point of speaking openly about it. “I’m going to have embarrassing moments,” says Gabel, “and that won’t be fun. But that’s part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they’ll be fairly kind.”
The full story of Gabel’s transformation is in the latest issue, on newsstands this Friday (May 11th). In it, the singer tells Josh Eells about her history of gender dysphoria, the specifics of the transition process and what becoming Laura Jane Grace will mean for the future of Against Me!
WHOA to come out as trans so publicly is so super brave and incredibly cool. Go Laura!!
